Questions About Therapy

What kind of issues do you specialize in?
We work with busy professionals and women who are facing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands or struggling to reconnect with yourself, our work focuses on helping you find balance, healing, and deeper emotional connections.
Do you offer couples therapy?
We work with adults (over the age of 18) as individual clients.
How does therapy with you work?

Therapy is a collaborative and safe space where we dive into your emotions, struggles, and experiences without bias or judgment. We start by exploring your history and current challenges and guide you through understanding how societal pressures and cultural expectations impact your mental health. This process is a mixture of deep reflections and learning tools.

We explore your inner world, identify patterns, and work toward practical solutions that fit into your life. We will help you identify emotional patterns and offer tools for managing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. We help improve communication and healing from trauma while fostering emotional resilience.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy is different for everyone. Some clients come for a few months to address a specific issue, while others stay longer for ongoing support and personal growth. We’ll talk about your goals early on and check in regularly to see how you’re feeling about the progress we’re making.

What should I expect in my first session?

The first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll talk about your reasons for seeking therapy, explore what’s been happening in your life, and set goals for our work together. It’s a safe, open space for you to share whatever feels important. We’ll also go over any logistical details like scheduling and paperwork.

What types of techniques do you use in therapy?
Our approach is integrative, drawing from several therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness practices, gratitude, and outdoor/creative therapies. We use culturally competent approaches tailored to your specific needs and background.
Do you give homework between sessions?

Initially, yes, depending on the client and their needs. We might discuss strategies or exercises to practice between sessions, especially if they help reinforce what we’re working on. These can include journaling, mindfulness activities, or reflection activities.

How will I know if therapy is working?
You’ll start to notice shifts in how you feel and respond to challenges. Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more in control of their lives after a few sessions. Progress is personal and can look different for everyone, but we’ll regularly check in on how you’re feeling about the work we’re doing.
What is the difference between talking to you versus talking to a friend?
While friends and family can be great for emotional support, therapy offers something different. Our work together is focused entirely on you, without judgment, biases, or expectations. Unlike casual conversations, therapy is a structured process designed to help you understand your patterns, heal emotional wounds, and make long-lasting changes. Plus, as trained therapists, we bring professional tools and techniques that friends and family can’t always offer.
How can I make the most out of therapy?
Be open, honest, and willing to explore both the comfortable and uncomfortable parts of your life. The more you invest in the process – by reflecting between sessions, completing any exercises, and applying what you learn – the more you’ll get out of it. Therapy is a space for growth, so allow yourself to be patient with the journey.
Does seeking therapy mean I’m weak-minded?
Absolutely not! Seeking help is a sign of strength. It means you recognize the need for support, and you’re taking action to improve your mental and emotional health. You don’t have to carry everything alone. Therapy gives you tools, insights, and guidance to navigate life with more clarity and confidence.
